Why doesn’t my home insurance pay for the repair of my boiler?2022-06-10T17:05:16+00:00

Why doesn’t my home insurance pay for the repair of my boiler? Home emergency plans cover a wide range of problems and emergencies that can happen with home appliances. Each policy is a little bit different, and you have to meet certain conditions. These can include the age of your boiler, how well it is maintained, how well it was installed, how much you can claim, and how long you have to wait before you can claim for the first time. These are different for each policy. So before you buy one, you should always read the fine print.

Can I supply my own repair parts?2022-06-10T16:48:34+00:00

We strongly advise that the parts for the repairs that we perform be supplied by us. This is due to the fact that it allows us to guarantee the quality and origin of the parts (we only use genuine manufacturer parts from suppliers that we know and trust). However, we would allow customers to supply parts if they signed a disclaimer stating that we would not be held liable for the performance of those parts or any subsequent problems caused by them.

How can I keep my condensate pipe from freezing?2022-06-10T13:05:37+00:00

Your condensate line may freeze in cold weather. To insulate the pipe from the cold, clad it. DIY shops sell pipe lagging. If it freezes, thaw it yourself.

Why are my radiators hot on top and cool on bottom?2022-06-10T13:00:53+00:00

This could indicate that your central heating system contains sludge. As a result, radiators may not heat properly or experience cold spots (eg they are often cold at the top and warm at the bottom). The most common solution is to use a power flushing service.

What can I do to keep my boiler in good working order?2022-06-10T12:54:11+00:00

To keep your boiler running efficiently, have it serviced once a year; add inhibitor; install a magnetic filter; bleed your radiators; turn on your boiler for short periods of time on a regular basis during the summer; powerflush; and lag outdoor pipes.

Does my central heating system need power flushing?2022-06-10T12:42:40+00:00

Your system needs power flushing if it has a build-up of sludge. Radiators not heating up properly, some radiators heating but not others or cold spots, such as cold at the top and warm at the bottom, are all indications that this is the case.

What is the best way to bleed my radiators?2022-06-10T12:31:22+00:00

The following are the five main steps to bleeding your radiators: 1. Turn off the heat; 2. Locate the bleed valve and key; 3. Open the bleed valve by inserting the key and turning anticlockwise; 4. Close the bleed valve; 5. Restart the heat.

Gas Safety Checks

An annual gas safety check is advisable for everyone, but if you’re a landlord, having a Gas Safe registered engineer safety check your property every 12 months is a legal requirement.

Every gas appliance and flue in the property must be checked and once these checks have been passed, you will be provided with a certificate. A copy of this certificate should be shared with your tenants before they move into your property, or within 28 days of your gas safety check being carried out.
